I've been meaning to write a lot of stuff for a long time. For now, here's a story.
Stephanie and I went running in our apartment complex's rec-room one evening (as we often do), and even though I didn't lock our front door for the 30 minute excursion, I still brought my keys with me. So we ran, I placed my keys in the cup-holder on the treadmill. (Really? a cup-holder on a treadmill? let's call it a water-bottle-holder). Then after running I walked around a bit, stretched, got a drink from the drinking fountain. Then we left, and I left my keys behind.
The following morning was quite disastrous. Stephanie usually keeps her keys in the car, to help her not forget to take them to school, and that's where they were in the morning, inside the locked car. My keys of course were nowhere to be found I went back to the rec-room, but found the treadmill water-bottle-holder empty. Someone might have taken them and given them to the office? Sadly the office was closed that early in the morning. A good while later and not-the-best-locksmith-in-the-world had my car door open and we're off to work for the day.
That afternoon though I dropped by the office and sure enough there were my keys in one of the desk drawers. "Some honest resident dropped these by" says the office secretary. And that is how honest people steal. Had they just left them there where I'd left them, there probably wasn't anyone who would have taken them, and I could have found my keys that morning and been happy. Of course an honest person turns things into the lost & found....
Mostly my mind is random. Sometimes full of useful information, often... not. However 'Writing maketh an exact man' and so I will continue.

no-snow depression
I'm generally a fan of Christmas. I do shy away a little bit, and frown upon the general over-indulgence and over-excitement of those around me, but I like Christmas. This year however I haven't really warmed up to the idea. I was gladly turned the holiday switch after thanksgiving buying a tree, putting up lights, and preparing for (hopefully) a great Christmas season.
Then days turned into weeks, Christmas was still weeks away, and I was getting pretty grinchy. I had to go shopping once or twice and was annoyed by the crowds. I've been out at night, several times, but I haven't wanted to see any Christmas lights. Talk of going to Temple Square bored me, and the holidays seemed further away than ever.
Then today happened. I went outside to my car and my spirits lifted. SNOW! It had snowed a light dusting durring the night, and everything seemed Chistmas-y in an instant. Then as I worked through the morning I kept an eye outside and watched as the snow-flurrys kept coming and coming. My jubilation at the beautiful weather made me realize, I need snow to make my Christmas complete.
Well if I ever live in Texas then I guess I might just skip Christmas, but for now, I am fully happy to welcome the real winter and the real Christmas.

Bank of ***** or why I hate Wells Fargo
(insert your own pluralized inappropriate word into the space above)
Apparently Wells Fargo's Car loan department does not accept a legal contract as proof of residence. Instead I had to call Rocky Mt. Power and have them fax over my account statement, proving that I do live at my apartment.
Then an hour later they said that Stephanie also had to have different proof of residence (even though they had previously said that her pay-stub would be fine, since it did in fact have her address on it)! The branch manager was apologetic and helpful in suggesting a credit union where he knew a manager who was really good. It was actually the Wells Fargo branch manager that called the car loan dept. an inappropriate word that inspired the title to this post.
Because they were so dumb, we had to miss out on the Bees game, which I was ok with at first thinking we would have a new car.. but now I'm just infuriated with the whole process. Interestingly enough the branch manager and our call seller both suggested the same credit union (UCCU) and said it would be really fast, with low rates, so I will hopefully have a post with our new car's pictures by tomorrow night!

sack lunch?
I love having lunch while I'm at school. Don't tell my wife this, but I am actually really, really glad that she gets up and packs some leftovers into a tupperware for me to heat up and eat for the days lunch break. (I usually tell her not to worry about it, and that I'll be fine). I like to be able to sit down, eat some real food, and take a break from staring a computer screens (food isn't allowed in the CAEDM lab you see).
What really irks me about having lunch though is using the microwaves on campus. No, I don't have a problem with their interface, I do think there are enough of them, and I don't think they're *too* gross to be used, but the other people using them need a butt kicking if you ask me.
Why do we use a microwave? to be fast. What are most people I see using the microwaves doing? not being fast. I refuse to stand in line behing Mr. Picky-Eater as he heats his pizza for 25 seconds, stops, turns it, dabs grease off the top and puts it in for another 25. I hate watching as people insert last night's casserole for 30 seconds, take it out, stir it, put it in again for 30, take it out, stir it, put it in for another 30... and on and on!
If I see someone standing in front of the microwave (there is only one in the Clyde Bldg.) there is usually someone behind them so I will go somewhere else, get a drink, to the bathroom, anything for a few minutes to avoid watching them take their precious time heating up food over and over. Most days I end up having to go into the MARB where there are two microwaves and I have never had to wait in line.
To me a sack lunch is good for being cheap and fast (you don't have to wait in line to have someone else make your sandwich) and these people are ruining half of it. Either they don't value their time much or they value their food way too much.

being alone
"I remember when I used to think I liked being alone, but lately being alone is just.... lonely." I felt that way today, and I posted such on my facebook status. I hope people won't take it as a sob story or anything, because I think it's more of a shift in state of mind. Right now I feel lonely, something I've felt fairly often this past week, and especially this weekend. It was finals, people were busy studying and taking tests, others were headed home as soon as possible, my roommate and best friend recently acquired a girl friend (and spend all his time with her, not me), other people had family gatherings and the like, but the bottom line for me was, I didn't. I studied a little, hung out with some friends from time to time, but I also did a lot of nothing. Countless hours playing Star Wars Battlefront:2 and significantly less hours taking tests created many times where I was alone.
Being alone is great, you can think clearly, you can relax. I love just listening to background noises, especially out in nature, the whisper of the wind, rustle of leaves, and enjoying having nothing around. In high school I also used to love watching everything around me. Just sitting quietly on a bench, listening to my friends talk to each other, so despite being with them I was often alone in my own world.
This weekend I'm housesitting at my aunts house while they're in CA for the holiday break. I was somewhat anxious to leave my friends in Provo and head down here so I left our little game night early and got here around 9:30. I started doing my wash and watched some ESPN... then I realized how lonely I was.
I love being with people, in some ways I've noticed it's like a drug to me. When I'm with lots of people talking and having a good time I get excited, I talk a lot, I get way into things and become overly dramatic about a lot of random stuff. Mostly I just smile a lot and laugh, laughing and smiling until my cheeks and stomach hurt. I have a few select people that I really love being with, and I LOVE to be really mean to them. I know sounds crazy, but that's what I do, I make ridiculously sarcastic and mean comments to all of my closest friends, which other people laugh or are shocked at, but those involved know how much I actually love them.
For the past while I've been feeling more and more distant from my friends, even when we're together I often feel alone... kind of like I'm going back to high school and I'm just observing them. I feel there are a number of very intertwined reasons for this, but I'm not going to discuss that now. For now it is late, and I am going to sleep in this big, dark, empty house.

The Best Bad Day
Today could have been the worst day ever... it's 12:07 am, I just got home from campus, and I'm making Western Family Macaroni and Cheese for dinner. I recently spent 5.5 hours in one chair, staring at a computer screen, editing a horribly filmed movie.
Earlier in the day I had spent 2 other hours in the same chair, editing the same movie.
A girl of my dreams canceled our noon-date to the MOA (I love the MOA...)
I got a 69% on my religion test (that puts my testimony at about a C-)
I have a huge and rather hard test for my Electrical & Computer Engineering class tomorrow. Today I had no time to study for it.
I hate the library, not that it's a bad place, I just avoid going there to study. Today I spent half of my waking hours there... I think I want to cry, not even kidding.
Why wasn't today the worst day of my life?
I talked to the girl of my dreams (I know, call me a sap, but those ten minutes did make my day that much better)
I wasted an hour talking with an old friend... a good hour.
I got to talk about sailing for half an hour :-) I love sailing.
I got to iChat with my little sister K.com (she gave me some instructions on video editing)
I used Final Cut Pro on a MacPro ^_^
I am currently listening to the new Dashboard CD, eating Mac&Cheese, and talking with the ever beautiful Katherine Alice Affeltranger. w00t
I ended up with a 75% on that ECEn test, and our movie won 3 awards at our ward Oscar's night; best visual effects, best costume design, best actress, w00t

two princesses
One, two, princes kneel before you
(thats what I said, now)
Princes, princes who adore you
(just go ahead, now)
Have you ever had a choice to make, a choice between to good things, trying to accurately pick the 'best.' Choice A seems logical, convenient, and increasingly acceptable day by day. Choice B seems a little more difficult to attain, something that will force me to go out of my way and will probably take quite some time. It seems obvious, no? Go with choice A, the path of least resistance, right? However... I've had a nagging feeling that I really should choose B, a thought that's been in the back of my mind since..... February? It's kind of hard to ignore, but it's almost harder to follow it!!
My final reasoning is that I cannot every be satisfied with anything until I have done B, whether it works out or not. Assuming that A is in fact the 'best' answer I can only prove that by first choosing B. B must be carried through, hopefully I have the courage to do it.

Perfect
I realize that perfection isn't really possible, and supposing it was actually possible it would still be infinitly hard to determine whether an even or day was 'perfect' since there are so many variables involved and so many different ways to judge something as perfect. As far as perfect days go, one mans party is another's prison, but for me, today was great. So great in fact I'm quite tempted to call it perfect (assuming that nothing horrible happens tonight) and heck, even this whole weekend is shaping up to be pretty freaking rockin'.
So let me explain. I was with my family at ranch in the middle of Duchesne County, I woke up around 6:30 this morning, I love early mornings, I'm a morning person, good moment. I stayed in bed 'til nearly seven then did a whole bunch of cleaning around the house putting chairs and tables away because we had to check out that morning. However after 45 min. or so of cleaning and getting ready to go I said good-bye to my few relatives awake at that time and took off. GoogleMaps says this drive is 2h45m however I made it in just over two hours. Only about an hour into my drive my gas light comes on. I know that means I should have about two gallons of gas left, meaning I should be able to go about 40 miles. So I resolve to stop as soon as I see a gas station. Not long afterwards I see a sign saying Heber is 48 miles away... hmm. I quickly lost hope in finding a gas station before Heber as the terrain I was crossing was quite deserted so I just kept hoping. Then came the glorious moment of reaching a sign saying "Summit 8020" meaning it was all down hill from there. I had gone about 38 miles at the point, but figured I could make it to Heber. 15 miles later I did, victory #1.
I got into Provo and had plenty of time to prepare for our ward activity. An activity that I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. We filled up about 400 waterballoons and had purchased a large tarp for sliding on. I also go 15 extra large pizzas, and a couple of gallons of water. After a bunch of preparation I went to play frisbee. I LOVE FRISBEE!!! We had a good game, my team lost, but it was super fun and a bunch of my favorite frisbee friends came to play. Then the activity started, we ate pizza to our hearts content, then played a quick, silly game of capture the flag with waterballoons, a game of my own invention that ended up in a mass waterballoon fight to the enjoyment of all. With our remaining water balloons we played some WB-volleyball with towels. By this time some of our frisbee friends that weren't in our ward had come to join us, which made the whole activity SO MUCH FUN!! Maybe it was just be since I knew the guys, but I really loved it that topped of the activity for me.
Finally we had a huge slip'n slide down the grass hill which extended down across the dry creek bed, probably about 60 feet long! At first I was content with helping out, holding the corners down, manning the hose, giving suggestions, timing crazy racers etc. but eventually my comrades convinced me to get myself wet and slide down. It was awesome! Once getting over the initial strangeness of sliding down water sprayed plastic on your stomach it became one of the greatest activities I've ever done! Now that I had my feet wet, I went all in, and kept sliding over and over, on my back on my front, as a train, in a race and had the time of my life. We ended play a little sand volleyball, cleaned up and left.
I then proceeded to turn on music really loud in my apartment, showering, relaxing, and playing THPS 1 =] what a day!!
So other than my great elation and happiness over the day, I began to develop some interesting philosophical ideas about myself, including why today was such a great day. For those only interested in adventurous deeds, stop reading here.
This week I have been very busy with my few classes, catching back up on reading, as well as seeing Harry Potter 6 at midnight, and attending my family reunion as often as I could fit into my schedule to do so. For this cause I spent little or no time with my friends (a few of which were out of town themselves) and I felt separated from them, like I was missing out on a lot... or I was at least missing them. The sense of loss and longing only added to the exuberant joy when I saw them again today, which upon analyzing I found silly since I had only been gone for one day! I began to realize though why I love my friends so much, and that is because of their individual personalities that I know so well. I have some strange, some normal friends, some strange on the outside, others on the inside, and some while seeming strange at the first impression, turn out to be quite normal, while others that seem so normal are found to be very strange upon further investigation.
For what ever reason, my joy in being with them seems to stem from my enjoyment in predicting their behavior, corresponding to their strangeness or lack thereof. I'm not verbally saying "oh she's gonna do/say this next" but in my mind there are fewer and fewer surprises, and I love it. I think being with people that don't surprise you makes life more comfortable, you worry less, and I find it easier to be myself and enjoy myself when this is the case.
Bottom line, I like to analyze people and I think I'm pretty good at it. I also love my friends, and it happens to be time for me to go meet them again, gn&gl.

simple pleasures
Yesterday and today I have been volunteering as a Y-Group Leader for Freshmen Orientation at BYU. It has been so much fun, but also very draining! My partner in leading is a cute girl that happened to also be in my math class last semester, it's been really fun to hang out with her, meet a bunch of freshmen, and walk around campus a bunch sharing knowledge. I just woke up from a 2.5 hour nap, and I am so happy. I get to go hang out with Megan again tonight, it's raining outside, and I am going to play starcraft, this day can't get much better ;-)

Just Tonight
Today I love fruit
I love doing puzzles
I think I look hott with a tan
I don't like air-con
Today was a great day
I did homework
I took an easy test
I went to work
Tomorrow should be fun and exciting.
as a Friday it is entitled to such
Class gets over at noon
and the weekend party starts

The Dream Maker's Gonna Make You Mad...
Interesting how frustrating life can be. With or without outside influences, our lives can become full of frustration, guilt, and anger, why? because of the dream maker. Who is that? Why, it's you! It can be so easy to become frustrated with things beyond our control, yet it is only ourselves and our over obsessive perfectionism that drives us to such anger and frustration. If we could just truly understand that those things aren't in our control then life could be so much more simple.
Today has been an extraordinarily tough day. What do I mean by tough? I mean it is becoming physically difficult for me to continue living. Each time I leave the house, begin a conversation, make a decision, it takes the greater part of my concentrated effort and stamina to do so. I am making me mad today. I am having so much trouble getting out of my own little head and it's bringing me down. There's been to many times today that instead of going on I was so close to just giving up, breaking down and crying... I have a friend who once described a similar situation where, "you just want to cry but can't because you have life to do." that's kind of how I feel today... but I know the sun will come out tomorrow, because the Storm Maker said it ain't so bad, and I know that He is right. I also know that this time is so necessary to my progression, it is simply taking so much from me to do all that I need to do (which is also part of it, since that fatigues helps create humility, which humility is needed to allow sufficient change).
Tomorrow will be better.

The Troublesome Duo
Trials and Blessings....
Two occurrences in life that come too close too often. Example: I get a huge tax return, day later, I get a speeding ticket.... I have a great time performing in dancesport with my super awesome girlfriend, day later, we break up.... point proven. Life really isn't fair, although I think this evens it out a little more. Think of it, those in more unfortunate circumstances sure don't experience quite so much heart break since they're dealing with where's my next meal, and not who's my next date. So in the end I'll try not to complain, but if you don't mind, let me paraphrase one of my favorite bands in saying, "It's giving me hell." Although blessing: I was able to sleep last night :-) and I'm not terribly ill today, just a little on edge. Also I had wicked cool dream where we were plaing soccer and I scored the winning goal... that was random considering I don't really play soccer at all. It was a pretty amazing shot too, although the game wasn't super intense so the defence was lacking at the moment and I had a nice shot and I curved it right into the corner, wow!

I am very baffled over life at this time. Part of me wants to wait patiently while it heals, and another part of me wants to tear it apart 'til it bleeds itself out. I'm scared and trying to be courageous, but the truth is I'm terrified. Most of life I can deal with, most of life's problems I get over pretty quickly, I deal with things and they go away, but I don't know if this is going to just go away....
.... Actually I think it will. Luckily I have great friends, and lots of help in life. I am beginning to remember that life is only what you make of it, and I am going to make this fun... or at least not not fun. I could be miserable and hate life, but that's just silly and I'm ready to have the best life ever. So brighten up sunshiny day! Watch out mr. raincloud, I have no time for you! It's my time now. I'm gonna take those many blessings and let them trump this trial.

Life
Life is unfairly good. Well I still have troubles, and hard times, but for the most part things are going well. I enjoyed a day off of I do have a MASSIVE linear algebra test that I need to take either within the next two hours or on Monday (still undecided...) but I'm doing swell in all other accounts. Hopefully I don't sound too prideful, but I'm just gonna 'count my blessings a little'
-I have a job
-I spent a day in heaven this week
-I have a car
-I'm not failing my classes
-My roommates are my friends
-There is a lack of conflict in my life
and more.... but that's all for now

Elevator
It often seems that the darkness and sadness can last forever, even to the point it seems that perhaps life was meant to be that dark and dull and you become complacent in the misery. I am pleased to announce that it's not true! It just takes some time, sometimes you're only in the middle of the ride, but everything will be just fine, everything will be alright!!
I can't say I've been super sad recently, just content with a seemingly sub-par life. This past weekend though I had quite a wonderful couple of days, and I saw the light again of a joyous life. This is why I have thus decided to make the conscious effort of making my life move upward again, and hopefully be on top of it all by the end of the semester. If not, I'll sure have fun doing it :D

Dance, Dance
So I failed. :-( I can't say it was the saddest day of my life, but it was still extraordinarily sad. Did I really have a chance to win? maybe not, but I sure felt that I didn't go as far as I could have. Today was BYU's DanceSport competition (and for those of you who know me, competition is my middle name) and I was all over the Cha-Cha and even tried my hand (or feet...) at Swing. I was felling great, having fun, but got cut after the fourth and first rounds (of cha-cha and swing, respectively). It wasn't a big deal, I don't mind not winning, I'm not a dance major, nor do I ever plan to be, but I do like dancing. It really shouldn't matter that I got cut so early... but it did.
Going in to this competition I was ready to win, it was in my head, I had visioned it, winning, what a champion-like thing to do, no? My dance partner was amazing, she *is* a dance major (er... minor actually) and she is a wonderful dancer. She got called back in all of her events (6 of them) except the ones where I danced with her.... see a connection? I feel bad that I lost, but even worse that I made her lose. Sure it wasn't entirely my fault, but I feel bad that I wasn't able to do better. She sure helped me a lot, gave me pointers and practiced often. I really feel like I've improved in my dancing, even just today I felt like I learned a lot from her as we would wait backstage and she would tell me over and over again about keeping my posture up, about planting my feet, about looking up, making it snappy, starting quickly, making it dramatic..... I learned SOOOO much today, and I loved dancing, even for the short while that we did. However deep inside of me it feels like I'm wretchedly angry at myself for falling short, and truthfully I feel like crying, but I can't... there's still life to life, so I'll do that.

No coherence
So I really want to write today, but I don't have any specific thing to write about. I guess a lot is happening and there's a million things I want to say, but couldn't have time for half of them to be said. Last night I talked on the phone with an old friend for nearly three hours... which I guess in comparison to some isn't that long, but for me it was a pretty long phone conversation. The weather lately has been so cold it's strange, this morning I scraped ice off my car. I drove to campus this morning, I never drive. I've been eating candy all day, I've only had oatmeal and a burrito other than skittles, starburst, and smarties. I played Wii for four hours today, most of that just happened between Chris and I, we rocked some super-smash butt. I did two CE 203 practice tests today, but I still feel inadequate for the test tomorrow. My day tomorrow is going to be so busy. I love this last weekend, we didn't do anything. We played Starcraft for many many hours (including 'till 3am saturday). I went to an awesome freezing cold football game. I got a free beanie and wore my free shirt. I love the BYU Cougars.., and Max Hall. I didn't really enjoy church. I did like our sunday-school lesson though. I didn't ride my bike all weekend. I saw a movie last thursday, I loved it! I nearly fell asleep in class today. I actually started sweating during dance class (go cha-cha!). I didn't finish today's crossword puzzle. I am slightly tired. We didn't have FHE tonight :( I have homework to do. ...

A new favorite
Funny story, my grandmother often says the world favorite giving emphasis to the 'a' but pronouncing the 'i' as 'eye' not 'eh' like it usually is... when we were kids we thought that was the right way say it. :D
So yesterday I stumbled across an amazing song... it's funny 'cause I'm not entirely sure just where it came from, but I think Pandora played it for me. It's by Snow Patrol, which I've heard a lot of, my sister has a CD or two of theirs I think, but I ever really gave it too much notice. Yesterday however when I was idly trying to write a seven page paper I was listening to some background music and all of a sudden what I heard caught my attention. I listened even more carefully for a moment and it was amazing! It was a most amazing and beautiful song, and I loved it!! I haven't had a new favorite song for a long time so this was kind of a big moment for me. Hearing this song made me do a little reading on the Snow Patrol which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it gave me a nice little break from my homework.
Naturally after this the song was stuck in my head, but that's okay because I do love it. Then this morning it was like an addiction, I HAD to hear the song... so I listened to it like four times in the past hour... I love it! Having a new favorite song is for sure an important thing, and I feel it give me a solid step in the 'adjusting' to normal life that everyone keeps asking me about.
I love music.

Heart Attack
Sometimes you just have to take a bad day to make life fair. Since last Wednesday I’ve been having pretty good days, I love waking up every morning, seeing the sunrays coming over the mountain and getting ready for another day of life. Honestly every day for nearly a week has been good, and even some great days mixed in there. Last night I went to bed happy, looking forward to today. I had a bunch of stuff to be happy about, dressing up, a dance test, religion class… It was supposed to be great. Then this morning came…. Ugh! Today was not quite the spectacular wonder of happiness that I was expecting, and I’d almost complain about it, but I guess it’s only fair, right? I mean there are children dying in Africa and I can’t take one bad day? Nah, I’ll take this one, I can do that… In fact it’s almost a blessing, a way to remind me that I’m not perfect or invincible. I think there’s a song about that… something about how bleeding lets you know you’re still human. Speaking of songs I think I just want to sing a couple to the world…:
What's a day when it all ends up the same,
and lasts forever?
Can't complain when there's nothing there to blame,
and things can't be better.
Summer evenings, teenage grievings,
got no problem with the life that I've been leading.
No concentration or hesitation,
I can't make time when nothings new,
‘cause waking up is hard to do so...
-Sum 41
If I had a dollar bill for every time I’ve been wrong
Id be a self-made millionaire and you’d still be gone
So hand me down my best dress shoes and my best dress shirt
‘Cause I’m going out in style to cover the hurt…
‘Cause now I’m drunk again
The leads to my end
And I’m scared of myself again….
-Reel Big Fish
On a Sunday go once around,
because when the rides done,
the hopes that you have carried,
they fall out from your hands back to the ground.
Live with that, with that.
They fall out from your hands back to the ground.
Baby live with that, With that.
And the haze clears from your eyes on a Sunday.
Yeah, the haze clears from your eyes on a Sunday.
Learn as the drugs leave.
Learn as you lose it.
You will.
